Recently I had had reason to contact five different companies. I have so far managed to contact three, but they were not easy to find. In all three cases, I had to ask if they were in fact the people I was looking for. As for the other two companies – I’m still looking.

Interestingly, all five companies could manage more business. But if I found it so difficult to find these when I knew they existed and was determined to find them, imaging how difficult it would be for someone to discover these companies when they were just looking for the service they provided.

Interestingly enough, none of these five companies had a website.

Does your company have a website?
If not – how many potential customers did you loose – today!?

APPS (applications) have stormed the world of mobile communications. While the first APP dates back to 1973, we usually associate the term with Smartphones which made their appearance around 1997. Regardless, Mobile devices are everywhere and the key to their success is the APP, those relatively simple and inexpensive custom applications we can down load into out phones and tablets.

While APPS range in price from cheap to free, the cost of producing an APP is a different story. The high cost involved has made them somewhat prohibitive to small businesses – until now.

Trentyne Management is please to offer APPS for small business.

Here’s how it works.

We design an APP for your business and you offer this APP free to your customers. Once installed on your customers Smartphone, they can quickly get updates, news, features dependent upon your type of business. For example, restaurants can display their lunch specials, auto-Service centres can ‘push’ advisories about switching to or from winter tires, fitness centres can motivate members about fitness programs, clubs can keep in touch with its members, video stores can take reservations for latest releases – the list goes on. Think about this for a moment – at one time, businesses couldn’t figure out why they needed a telephone, then why they needed a fax machine, then why they needed a website or even email – but can you imaging trying to run a business without that technology. It’s a changing world. Every business will one day have an APP – why not start now.

Before you dismiss this, consider these Mobile Usage Statistics (courtesy of – snaphop)

In 2011, there were 835 million smartphone users, 5.6 billion feature phone users (Mary Meeker, Kleiner Perkins, Morgan Stanley Research via Business Insider)

Global internet usage will more than double by 2015, and most of these users will be mobile (Boston Consulting Group, Mary Meeker, Kleiner Perkins, Morgan Stanley Research, Berg Insight via Business Insider)

64% of mobile phone time is spent on apps (Nielsen 2012) 13.4% texting, 11.1% browser, 5.5% social networking apps, 5.4% dialer, 5.3% email/IM, 2.3% music/video, 1.1% camera, 55.8% other apps (Nielsen 2012)

Adults spend more media time on mobile than newspapers and magazines combined (eMarketer December 2011)

On average, it takes 90 minutes to respond to an email, but 90 seconds to respond to a text message (CTIA)

61% of customers who visit a mobile unfriendly site are likely to go to a competitor’s site (Karim Temsamani at IABALM 2012 via IAB)

At the end of 2011, nearly 1 in 5 smartphone users scanned product barcodes and nearly 1 in 8 compared prices on their phones while in a store (comScore 2012)

In 2012, the U.S. saw a 55% increase in smartphone subscriptions to make for 98 million smartphone subscribers, representing nearly 42% of all U.S. mobile users. (comScore 2012)

In the U.S. alone, there were more than 400 smartphone devices on the market at the end of 2011 (comScore 2012)

In 2011, smartphone adoption increased 99% among 6-person households, 98% among those making less than $25,000, and 92% among retirees (comScore 2012)

Apple and Android represent more than 75% of the smartphone market (comScore 2012)

QR code scans increased 300% in 2011 over 2010 (ScanLife)

QR code usage jumped 617% from January to December 2011 in top 100 magazines (Nellymoser)

Mobile email opens increased 34% while opens on webmail and PCs decreased by 11% and 9.5% from April to September 2011 (Return Path)

THE FUTURE IS COMING – Are you prepared?

It is generally accepted that at sometime during 2013, the internet will be accessed by more mobile devices than by traditions means – that is, by computers. This is not to imply that access by computers is on the decline – on the contrary. It simply means access by mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, is growing faster – much faster. So what does this mean to the small business owner?

It means two things!

Firstly – In addition to the obvious screen size limitations, traditional websites do not render very well on mobile devices. In particular, if the website has ‘Flash’ (a method used to animate images or to display video), these cannot be seen on Apple devices such as the iPad or iPhone. Therefore, the website visitor quickly gives up and moves on.

Secondly – Clients who access the internet using a mobile device are not looking for the type of information displayed on the traditional website. Their needs tend to be immediate and a lot more focused. They are looking for very specific information such as phone numbers, location and directions, hours of operation, services, products, etc.

Given the direction the internet is going and it being driven by this mobile phenomenon, Trentyne Management is please to offer websites specifically designed for mobile access. To do this, we add a secondary website – a mobile friendly website. One with the information a mobile user really whats to see.

Here’s how it works.

We set up a website for your business but instead of it being a dotCOM or dotCA, it is a dotMOBI. This dotMOBI site will have all the information about your company that people would want to receive via their mobile device. We also insert a line of code into your tradition website and now you are all set. Should someone access your traditional website via a mobile device, that embedded line of code will detect the device and immediately redirect the visitor to the new mobile website. In addition, the new website will also detect the particular mobile device (make and model) and which Operating System it is using (iOS, Android, Windows, etc), and will deliver the website in a compatible format. It may sound complicated but that is behind the scenes. From a visitor’s point of view, it is really simple.

To see a demo – access this web page – www.trentyne.com – on a mobile device to see the difference.

Putting Your Business on the Internet!

There is no doubt about it, the internet is here and it is showing no signs of going away any time soon. Why? There is nothing looming up ahead that could possibly replace it. People in droves have endorsed the internet and so it has gained what appears to be, un-stoppable momentum. So perhaps it is time to stop sitting on the side lines debating whether you or your business needs to be part of the over-whelming trends towards the internet – because the answer is YES – and become part of the revolution.

Unlike many other business situations, having your company’s presence on the internet has lots of advantages and very little downside or risk.

The advantages are -

If your company is worth doing business with, customers will assume that there is a website. Have you ever experienced not being able to find a company on the website and how frustrating it is. Just the mere fact that you want to find its business hours and can’t, leaves you frustrated.

Keep your customers aware of new products and special deals.

Provide answers to frequently asked questions about your products – save your staff from continuously having to answer the same question over and over.

Go beyond your product line and offer solutions to situations using your products. Provides hints and tips.

There are endless ideas. Can’t think of any? Don’t worry, go to your ‘competitors’ websites to get ideas.
